英語スピーチ例会レポート


例会レポートです。今日は通常とは異なる会場で開催されました。みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブの例会は通常、横浜市桜木町の市民活動支援センターで開催されますが、本日は横浜市関内の中区民活動センターで行われました。何人かのメンバーが、会場が異なることを皆にリマインドしてくれました。

例会が毎回異なる会場で行われると、不便と思われるかもしれませんが、毎回同じ会場を確保することは実際には非常に困難です。会場予約やセットアップを担当する会場係(Sargent at Arms)は、会場予約の毎月月初に朝の9時から並ばなければなりません。

もう平成も終わり、今や令和時代です。なぜ施設​​の前に行列を作らなければならないのでしょう…？

ジョークアンドテッィプスセッション


ジョークアンドテッィプスマスターのJmさん。本日、会場を間違って遅刻してしまった彼女ですが、無事にたどり着いた後、最後の部分を変えて、別のトピックについて話しました。Jmさんの最も恥ずかしい瞬間のお話です。彼女がホテルの電子レンジでパンケーキを過熱し、火災警報器が鳴りホテルの人々を避難させてしまったと言うエピソードです。

話を聞いている間、受付の前に電子レンジが置かれているホテルで、半熟卵を調理しようとしたら爆発させてしまった日の事を思い出しました…。それ以来、僕は電子レンジで卵を調理していません(笑)。

準備スピーチセッション


4人目の英語スピーチを発表したAsさん。彼は、"日記をどのように使用して、キャリアを積んでいく過程で直面する苦労に対処するか"について話しました。

同時にエマ・ワトソンの存在が困難を良く感じる為にどのように役立つかについて力説していました。エマを人生に取り入れれば、落ち込んでいる時でも気分が良くなる事受け合いです！※エマ・ワトソンはあくまで英語スピーチの一部で、メインメッセージではありません…。

論評セッション


3人目の論評者のSbさん。本日、彼は即興論評をしました。みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブには、「火曜日ルール」と呼ばれるルールが有ります。これは準備スピーカーが火曜日までに論評者にスクリプトを送信し、よく準備された論評をお願いするものです。

今日、Sbさんは"事前にスクリプトを読まずに論評する"という挑戦を行い、かなりうまく行ったように見えました。しかし、「論評中にもっと多くの論評のアイデアを思いついていたが出来なかった」と仰っていました。とても知的なSbさんですが、今後の即興論評も時が経つにつれ、改善されていくと思います。

English speech meeting report

Today the meeting was held in a different venue than the usual. We usually have ones at Shimin Katsudo Shien Center at Sakuragicho, but this meeting was at Naka Kumin Katsudo Center at Kannai. As a result, some of the courteous members were very kind to remind to all that the venue is going to be different.

It might sound inconvenient that the venue is different, but ensuring the same venue every time is actually extraordinarily difficult. Our past and current Sargent at Arms (SAA), who is responsible for the venue reservation and its setups, have been dedicating to secure the venue consistently, by lining up from 9 AM in front of the venue! Wow!

Wait a minute; it already is Reiwa-era. Why do we have to form a queue in front of the facility as if in Showa-era…? I mean, even Showa-era had telephone, so to avoid the users to form unproductive queue onsite and transportation to get there…

Let’s get back to the topic – the meeting report.




TM Bg was affected unfortunately, by the use of different venue this meeting, as she went to Sakuragicho, to see no one there.She managed to be at Kannai venue to perform the Joke and Tip Session, even though being slightly tardy.For the session, she switched the last minute to talk about a different topic - her most embarrassing moment.


It was when she over heated a pancake at a hotel’s microwave, causing the fire alarms to sound, forcing the people at the hotel to evacuate.Hearing the story, I recalled the day that I let a raw egg explode in a microwave, intended to cook soft-boiled egg, at a hotel that the microwave was placed in front of the hotel reception…Since then never have I cooked egg by microwave.


Prepared Speaker TM As talked about how he uses his diary to deal with his struggle that he faces at this moment of his career. He mentioned how the presence of Emma Watson helps him feel better about the situation. I think I will start incorporating Emma Watson in my life to make myself feel better when I am down. (to be clear, Emma Watson was just the stem of the story and not the main message…)



TM Sm evaluated a speech, in a impromptu manner. Minatomirai TMC has what is called “the Tuesday rule” that requires prepared speaker to send in the script to his evaluator, for a fruitful prepared evaluation. However today, TM Sm made a challenge.
TM Sm seemed to have done the evaluation fairly well. But he later confessed that he was coming up with many ideas of what to say, as he was delivering the evaluation, not being able to get to what he originally intended to say. However, that TM Sm is very intelligent, I believe that his impromptu speech will just continue to improve over time. Let’s learn from his improvements!


Postscript

The meeting was great as usual. We for the first time in perhaps a year, ended with enough time remaining. What a great time management by all the members. Great job! (by TM Tr, member for less than three years)

英語スピーチ例会レポート

この日は“浴衣＆花火”,Sparkle （輝く）というテーマで例会が行われました。3人の男性を含む計11人が浴衣姿で参加し、通常とは違う艶やかな雰囲気の英語スピーチ例会でした。

開会宣言～テーブルトピックスセッション


会長Fjが面白いトッピクを紹介。ドライブスルーが意外な商売で使われているとこと、ハンバーグショップ、ドラッグストアをはじめ、クリーニング屋、質屋、葬儀場など。


本日のWord of the dayは"Levity"。難しい言葉で、本来は軽率、無思慮の意味ですが、近年はもっといい意味で、気軽、軽い楽しみ、ユーモラスなどの意味で使われていると説明がありました。


ジョークアンドティップスマスターのAsも浴衣姿、いきなり新人4人を前によび出し、”好きなことを1分間話してください”といい、ユニークな方法でみんなを楽しませました。 また、テーブルトピックスセッションではゲームに関する質問に答える形で、面白い答えが出ました。

準備スピーチセッション


準備スピーカーはフィリピーナのJm。初めての着物だそうで、うれしそうなかわいらしい姿での英語スピーチでした。“The most beautiful things in life are made with passion, with love and time.” という言葉が印象的でした。


3番目のスピーカーYgは凜とした姿で、日本の着物について語り、伝統、家族から受け継いだものについて、今日のテーマに合わせての英語スピーチでした。

あとがき

テーマのごとく、普段にも増してキラキラと美しく輝き、活気と情熱のある華やかな英語スピーチ例会でした。それの雰囲気を持って、横浜市中区の山下公園で花見を楽しみました。(レポーター：Fj)

English speech meeting report


In a meeting under the theme of “sparkle”, 11 members wearing YUKATA including 3 men and 2 foreigners were present. A gorgeous atmosphere filled a meeting room.


President TM Fj shortly talked about drive-through which is available in unique businesses, not only hamburger shops, drugstores, but also laundries, pawnshops even funerals. Word of the day “Levity” was given by TM Oh. It’s difficult to use during the speech. 
Joke & tips master TM As in YUKATA held unique session asking 4 new members to come up to the state and freely speak for one minute.That unusual way made the audience enjoy. 


In the prepared speech session, TM Jm was wearing YUKATA for the first time, cute and happy. The words “The most beautiful things in life are made with passion, with love and time” was impressive.


TM Yg was a nice-looking man in YUKAYA made a speech about Kimono explaining Japanese tradition and a remembrance of his grandfather’s kimono. 
We will have 300 commemoration meeting and rookies in-house contest at the same time on October 12th. The flyer designed by Ng was distributed among members and to other clubs. 

Postscript

The meeting was lively, actively held in sparkle mood. After that many members enjoyed fireworks at Yamashita Park. (reporter: Fj)

英語スピーチ例会レポート


英語スピーチ例会レポートです。本日は横浜市桜木町近辺で行われた「ピカチュウ大量発生チュウ!2019」の日でした♪

トーストマスター・オブ・ザ・デイと例会テーマ


本日のトーストマスター・オブ・ザ・デイ(TMOD)はStさん。今日の例会テーマは”Dazzling story”。この日は山の日の前日。登山で素晴らしい景色が見えるのは、アラジンの魔法の絨毯のように視点が変わるからです。本日の英語スピーカーもDazzling Storyでメンバーを新しい世界(whole new world)に連れて行ってくれるという流れでご説明頂きました。

文法係・"あー"カウンター(GRAHCO)


本日の文法係・"あー"カウンター(GRAHCO)はJmさん。本日の言葉(word of the day)は”supersede(取って替わる)”でした。任意でご用意頂いた本日の熟語(word of the idiom)は”break a leg(幸運を祈る)”でした。日本語で言うところの、”骨折”では無く、”ご足労頂く”に近いニュアンスなのかもしれません。

文法係・"あー"カウンター(GRAHCO)は論評セッションで、良かった表現や文法の誤り、間投詞(“えー”、や”あー”)が使われた回数を発表する時間が設けられています。Jmさんのアドバイスで「間投詞を使う代わりに”基本的には(basically)”を使うと良い」というものが有りました。言語の不思議なところで、日本語で話していても反対語の”応用的には”は日常会話ではなかなか使いませんが、”基本的には”は自然な繋がりに聞こえます/笑。

準備スピーチセッション


写真はTdさん。英語スピーチタイトル”VPE vice president of education”。トーストマスターズクラブでのオフィサー業務は多岐に渡りますが、中でも教育担当副会長(VPE)は例会のロールアサイン・メンバーのマニュアル進捗管理・DCPのようなクラブ運営計画と多忙な役職です。

昨年、教育担当副会長を担当されたTdさんが昨年の経験で得られた事や大変だった事、みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブメンバーへのメッセージをお話しいただきました。昨年度のクラブへの貢献、ありがとうございました。


写真はNkさん。本日のプロジェクトが、Pathwaysの”プレゼンテーション熟達”より”ソーシャルスピーチを行う”と言う事で、Nkさんが昨年、実際に米国で行った受賞スピーチの抜粋版を披露頂きました。Nkさんが経営に関わっていらっしゃる会社は、脳外科分野での医療器具を開発し、関係団体よりExcellence Awardを受賞されたそうです。

関係各者への感謝やビジネス成功への喜びの表現、自社のミッションと続き、同氏の好きな英国詩人オリバー・ゴールドスミスの「栄光」についての格言で、英語スピーチを締め括られました。引用された内容は、「私たちの最も素晴らしい栄光は、決してくじけないことではなく、くじける度に起き上がることにある」というものだそうです。奮起される名言をご紹介いただきありがとうございました。

あとがき

ここのところ、新規入会メンバーを中心にPathwaysのアイスブレーカーデビューをされる方が増えています。アイスブレーカーはCCマニュアルのプロジェクトでもあった一番はじめの自己紹介スピーチで、メンバーへの名刺代わりのようなプロジェクトでもあります。メンバーのバックグラウンドを知れるのは個人的にも興味深く、とても楽しみです。(レポーター：Kr)

English speech meeting report


Today's TMOD was TM.St. Today ’s theme was “Dazzling story”. As this day was the day before the mountain day. The reason why we can see a breathtaking view when climbing is that the viewpoint changes like the magic carpet of Aladdin. She hoped that today's speaker also let us see the whole new world by Dazzling Story too.

Today's GRAHCO was TM Jm. The word of the day was “supersede”. The word of the idiom that she prepared voluntarily was “break a leg”.

GRAHCO has time to announce good expressions, grammatical errors, and the number of spoken fillers at the evaluation session. Her advice was that “basically” would be suitable instead of fillers. Thank you for your advice!


The first speaker was TM Td. Speech title was “VPE vice president of education”. He is the previous VPE. The officer’s duties are diverse at Toastmasters Club, and VPE is so busy officer starting from role assignment at regular meetings, member’s manual progress management, and DCP management.

He talked about what he learned from VPE experiences, challenges, and a message to us. Thank you for your contribution to the club last term.


The third speaker was TM Nk. His project was “Deliver Social speeches” from Pathways' “Presentation Mastery”, and he delivered an excerpt of the award actual acceptance speech in the United States last year. The company co-owned by Nk developed a medical instrument in the field of neurosurgery and received an Excellence Award from a related organization.

He expressed his gratitude to the people involved, his joy of business success, his company mission, and his favourite English poet Oliver Goldsmith's “Glory”. The quoted content is that “our most glorious glory is not to be discouraged, but to be woken up every time it is discouraged”. Thank you for sharing the inspiring quotes.

Postscript


In these days, more and more members are making Pathways icebreaker debuts. An ice breaker is the first self-introduction speech that was also a CC manual project, and it is also a project to substitute the business cards for members. It is interesting to know the background of the members and I am very much looking forward to it. (Reporter: Kr)
