英語スピーチ例会レポート

みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブの第302回例会が、横浜市技能文化会館にて行われました。例会が行われたのは11月23日、勤労感謝の日です。PresidentのFjさんによる冒頭スピーチで、この日は元来収穫物への感謝をささげる新嘗祭の日であったことが紹介されました。また Toastmaster of The DayのKtさんも新嘗祭とアメリカのThanks Giving Dayとの近似を指摘されていて、「実りの秋」を感じるオープニングとなりました。


今日の単語、”Word of the Day”はGRAHCO・Onさんチョイスの ”hilarious”（非常に面白い）です。例会では毎回、使用を推奨する言葉が提示され、それを即興で英語スピーチ中などで使うことで、発想力や語彙力を鍛えることができます。GRAHCOにアサインされる人は皆毎回、使う機会の少ない言葉や、知っていると便利な言葉を趣向を凝らして提案しています。

今日の英語スピーチは3本で通常より1本少ないため、その分Table Topicが長めに行われました。即興スピーチのお題を出題するTopic MasterのImさん、タイムリー且つバラエティに富んだ題材のチョイスとベテランならではの滑らかな進行で場を温めてくださいました。

準備スピーチセッション


一人目の英語スピーカーはAvさん。アゼルバイジャンをルーツとするご自身の出自と、日本に来た経緯、さらにクラブに入った経緯を話してくださいました。みなとみらいクラブはAvさんのほかにもフィリピンやモンゴル、ロシアご出身のメンバーがいて、国際色豊かなことが一つの特徴でもあります。

二人目の英語スピーカーはOgさん。7月に入会されてから初めてのスピーチです。普段もの静かな雰囲気のOgさん、今回の英語スピーチではペルーのマチュピチュへの旅行とその前後に起こったハプニングについて話してくださいました。内容的に実はかなりのリスクテイカーなのでは…？と、普段とのギャップで皆の心を鷲掴みにしたスピーチでした。



三人目のスピーカーはPresidentのFjさん。日本の多機能トイレについて、海外の方々の様々な反応を情感豊かに表現してくださいました。今回のプロジェクトはHumorous Speech。面白い話をするという前提条件があるなかで実際に人を笑わせるのは大変だと思うのですが、それをチャーミングに軽々とやってのけたFjさん、今回のBest Speakerに輝きました。

論評セッション



準備スピーチにはそれぞれのスピーチを評価する論評者がつきます。

今回の論評者はベテランの3人、Ydさん、Fwさん、Kmさんでした。皆さんそれぞれのスタイルで的確かつポジティブな論評をされていました。Kmさんはしばらくお休みされたあとの皆が待ちに待ったご登壇で、穏やかかつ洗練された運びでFjさんのスピーチについて更にメッセージを強めるための提案をされており、みごと今回のBest Evaluatorを受賞されました。

あとがき

今回のレポート担当は総合論評者(GE)のNkが担当しました。クラブに入っておよそ一年半になりますが、GEは今回が初めてです。緊張して挨拶を忘れたりアジェンダを飛ばしそうになったり落ち着きのないGEでしたが、メンバーの温かさに支えられました。これはメンバーが皆よく言うことですが、クラブは積極的に新しいことをやってみたり、 失敗を恐れず実験したりできる場です。皆がお互いの成長を純粋に支えあえる場所というのは有難いものだなあと常々思います。


トーストマスターズクラブに少しでも興味がある方、英語が得意な方も得意でない方も、一度例会を覗きに来てみてください。きっとよい時間が過ごせると思います！

English speech meeting report

The 302nd regular meeting was held at "Yokohama Craftspeople Assembly Hall" on November 23rd. It was Labor Thanksgiving Day. In the opening speech by President Fj, it was introduced that Labor Thanksgiving Day was originally the day of harvest ritual, Niiname-Festival. 
Also, Toastmaster of The Day, TM Kt pointed out the approximation of Labor Thanksgiving Day and American Thanks Giving Day. It was good for the opening that felt the harvest season. Word of the Day was "Hilarious". That means extremely funny. It was chosen by GRAHCO, TM On.


Table Topics Session had seven questions. TM I'm picked a timely and varied theme. And she warmed the place with smooth progression. 

Prepared Speech Session

The first speaker was TM Av. He talked about his origins based on Azerbaijan, how he came to Japan and how he joined this club. Minato Mirai Club has some foreign members from the Philippines, Mongolia, and Russia, as well as TM Av. Worldwide is one of our club's characteristics.

The second speaker was TM Og. This was the first speech since she joined in July. TM Og, who has a quiet atmosphere, talked about his trip to Machu Picchu in Peru. It was actually sound like a shrilling trip. Her speech grabbed everyone's heart through the usual gap.

The third speaker was President Fj. She expressed the various reactions from foreigners about the Japanese multi-functional toilets richly and emotionally. Her project was Humorous Speech at this time. I think it would be difficult to make people laugh actually, but she just maid it. And she got the Best Speaker of the day.

Evaluation Session



There were three seasoned evaluators in this meeting. TM Yd, TM Fw and TM Km. Everybody had a precise and positive comment on their style. TM Km proposed to strengthen the message about President Fj's speech with a gentle and fine way. And TM Km won the Best Evaluator this time. 


Postscript

Today's General Evaluator and the reporter was TM Nk who had been in this club for one and a half year. It was her first GE. She was nervous and restless, but other members supported her. This is something that the members usually say, "this club is a place where you can actively try new things and experiment without fear of failure". I always appreciate the members who can support each other's growth.

【横浜市栄区本郷台】トーストマスターズ神奈川地区 新人スピーチ 対抗戦速報！


みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブが所属する神奈川地区新人スピーチ対抗戦2019が横浜市栄区本郷台のあーすぷらざにて開催されました。英語スピーチコンテストにはインハウスコンテストを勝ち抜いたJaさんが出場されました。

スピーチタイトル・"kokorozashi - The Endless Pursuit"。フィリピンで生まれた幼少期の頃からの夢や、キャリアの岐路、自分のミッションと言ったエピソードから志を持つことの大切さを教えてくれた英語スピーチでした。


他クラブからの強豪がひしめく中、Jaさんは2nd placeを獲得しました！おめでとうございます！！また、同時にみなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブからコンテストチェアのNkさん、インタビュアーのOyさんが運営委員として、活躍してくれました。

Kanagawa area English speech contest report


The contest of Kanagawa area to which Minato Mirai Toastmasters club belongs was held. In the English speech contest, TM Jm who won the in-house contest entered.

Speech title was "kokorozashi - The Endless Pursuit". It says how important it is to have the big ambitious along with her childhood memory in the philippine, crossroads of her career, her mission.
Lots of contestants from other clubs competed, Ja, won the 2nd place! congratulations!!
Also, TM Nk served as contest chair, TM Oy served as an interviewer.

英語スピーチ例会レポート

例会を際立って印象的なものにするために、トーストマスターズクラブでは、ミーティングごとにテーマを設定しています。本日のミーティングテーマは、“Beyond the Border”でした。メンバーは、それぞれの限界を超えるために努力し、同時に異文化交流を楽しみました。


本日は例会のはじめに、モンゴルからのニューカマー・Oyさんの入会が承認され、彼女のトーストマスターとしての旅のはじまりを祝いました。みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブは何年もの間、ほぼ毎月に渡り新しい会員を迎え入れ続けています。

英語クラブであるみなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブは、年齢や国籍といった会員の多様性を誇りにしています。同時にクラブの性別は凡そ半々の構成です。例会のロールテイカー達は最近クラブに参加した人から経験豊かな会員まで、多岐に渡っています。メンバーは入念に準備し、勇気を持って人前で話すことで、例会を色鮮やかで爽やかなものにしてくれています。本日のテーブルトピックスマスターはOnさん。彼女は、”秋”に関する質問でセッションをリードし、Myさんが愛読書である藤沢周平の”深い河”に絡めた回答で、ベストテーブルトピックス賞を受賞しました。

準備スピーチセッション

一人目の英語スピーカーはGtさん。”コミュニケーションの目的とは、話者のコミュニケーションスタイルを決める事である”と、倒産寸前の会社が賞を受賞するほどの企業に変わった彼の経験について話す事で、メンバーに気づかせてくれました。"コミュニケーションはリップサービスではなく、誠実さや、正直さを表現するものである"という言葉が印象的でした。


二人目の英語スピーカーはAsさん。彼は、ジャカルタでの旅の経験を話してくれました。見知らぬ地元の男性の連れられ、スリリングな旅をどのようにサバイバルしたかについて、スムーズで完璧な英語スピーチでメンバーを楽しませてくれました。


三人目のRsさん。彼は冒頭にボールを投げ合っている人の短い動画を見せ、人がどれほど簡単に注意を失うかについて説明してくれました。多くのメンバーは動画に秘められたトリックに引っ掛かってしまったようです。本日の準備スピーチはすべて、トーストマスターズの新教育プログラム・Pathwaysからのプロジェクトで、Asさんがベスト賞でした。ベスト賞受賞もさることながら、無事日本に帰って来られたようで何よりです笑。

論評セッション

論評セッションが、準備スピーチに対して行われました。Nkさんは、彼女の持ち前のキュートなクイーンズイングリッシュでNgさんのスピーチを賞賛し、プレジデントのFjさんは、その幅広い笑顔でAsさんのスピーチについて分析しました。

Sbさんは新メンバー・Rsのアイスブレーカーデビューに対しての論評でした。Rsさんはスピーチデビューとは思えないほどのものでしたが、次回はもっとRsさん自身に関するスピーチを楽しみたいものです。 Sbさんのロジカルで励みになる論評が、ベスト論評賞を受賞。メンバー間の善意ベースの論評は、トーストマスターズでの学びの特徴や相互支援の精神を象徴しています。(レポーター：Kr)

English speech meeting report


In order to make a meeting distinctive and memorable, Toastmasters Clubs set a theme for each of their regular meetings. The theme of the meeting on Saturday, November 9 of Minato Mirai Toastmasters Club was “Beyond the Border”. The Club members enjoyed the meeting by trying harder to break limitations and making a cross cultural event. First the club members voted to approve an induction of a new member O from Mongolia and celebrated the launch of her Toastmaster journey. The club has been inducing new members almost every month for years.


The English speaking club is proud of its diversity of the membership body, in terms of age and nationalities. The club has almost 50:50 gender distribution. Some of the role takers of the meeting have joined the club recently and some are quite seasoned members. And all of them successfully made the meeting colorful and refreshing with good preparation and courage to talk in public.

Toastmaster YO led the Table Topics Session with seasonal questions related with Autumn, and TM M won the Best Table Topics Award by recommending one of his favorite books.

In the Prepared Speech Session, first Toastmaster NG impressed the audience that a purpose of the communication should determine the speaker’s communication style by talking over his own experience of turning around an almost bankrupt company to an award winning enterprise. Next, Toastmaster YA entertained the members by his smooth and flawless speech about how he survived a thrilling excursion to deep corners of Jakarta under guidance of a local man he had never met. Lastly TM RA puzzled the audience by showing a short footage of several people tossing balls to show how easily people lose their attentions. All the speeches were made for projects under the Pathways, the Toastmasters’ new educational program. Later TM YS won the Best Prepared Speech Award. He could not have been more glad that he could come back to Japan safely more than by winning the award.


The Evaluation followed the speeches, and the first evaluator RN praised TM NG’s communication approach in her beautiful Queen’s English. Evaluator MF analyzed how TM YA’s speech was entertaining with a lot of her wide smiles. Then Evaluator TS analyzed the speech by TM RA that while his speech, which was his first project since he joined the club, was surprisingly professional, but did not necessarily satisfy the critical objective of the project to introduce himself to the club members as a new member. Evaluator TS’s logical but encouraging approach won him the Best Evaluator Award. The good willed evaluation session symbolizes the Toastmasters’ educational nature and mutually supporting spirit.


After General Evaluator YO and Toastmaster of The Day HK concluded the sessions, the Club held an extra meeting exercise, a rehearsal session of the Rookie Speech Contest, a once a year event in the Kanagawa Area. TM JB won the club Rookie Contest in the previous meeting and delivered her exercise speech for her preparation of the coming Rookie Contest. The Filipino rookie impressed the audience by talking over her sincere approach to the society and her own life with natural but expressive body language and vocal variety. After the speech, all the audience helped JB by giving her suggestions for improvement and encouragements. The club is ready to give mutually learning and culturally entertaining moments to all the members and guests.

期待の新人戦！記念すべき第300回 英語スピーチ例会レポート！ ～クラブ内・新人スピーチ・コンテスト編～


例会レポートです。第300回例会は、なんと英語スピーチコンテストのクラブ内予選の日です。ハロウィーンを意識したデコレーションの中、執り行われました。

対象者となるのは過去１年以内に入会した新メンバーの中からの、勇気ある立候補者。みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブの新規入会者は最近特に多く、なんと5人ものコンテスタントに集まっていただきました。

インハウス・ルーキー・スピーチ・コンテスト


本日のコンテスト・チェアーはNkさん、チーフ・ジャッジはKrさんです。二人とも役員のため普段からみなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブに計り知れない貢献をされています。今回は、これに加えてコンテストのために沢山の準備をしていただきました。

期待の新人はそれぞれ緊張しながらも精いっぱい、時にはユーモアを交えて、英語スピーチ熟練者をも鼓舞させるスピーチを披露してくださいました。コンテスト優勝者は、続いて神奈川県コンテストに出る権利が与えられます。 神奈川県コンテストに進出されるメンバーを、みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブのメンバー全員で応援していきます。

フィードバックセッション


通常セッションの後に、会長のFjさん司会によるフィードバックセッションが開催されました。自由発言方式での新人コンテスト出場者への英語スピーチ論評です。過去にルーキーコンテストに出場したことのある先輩を中心に、次回神奈川県コンテストを勝ち進むことに期待を寄せた、真摯かつ建設的なアドバイスが沢山出されました。

論評は、対象となる英語スピーカーにとっての振り返りの参考になるだけではなく、聞いている他のメンバーも多くの気づきを得ることができます。筆者も、ベテランメンバーのフィードバックを聞いて、自分のスピーチに活かしたいと思う内容を多く得られました。スピーチとそれに対するフィードバックのセットにより、日常生活ではなかなか得られない、貴重な気づきを得ることができます。

最後に、今回の例会はみなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブの記念すべき300回目の例会ということで、創設者のYdさんよりご挨拶がありました。夢は大きく、次は500回を目指していこうという鼓舞により、メンバーの意識が高まりました。長く長く続く、活気のあるクラブを目指して参ります。

あとがき


コンテストは、国際的に定められた、厳粛な手順とルールで進められます。コンテストチェアー、チーフジャッジ、ジャッジ、インタビュアー等、通常の例会にはない役割も多々あります。これらを体験することも貴重な機会となることでしょう。次のコンテストも楽しみですね！(レポーター：Mt,メンバー歴4年)

The 300th English Speech Regular Meeting Report! In-House Rookie Speech Contest on October 26th


The 300th regular meeting is the day of the In-House Rookie Speech Contest. The target is courageous candidates from new members who joined the Toastmasters Club within the past one year. We got 5 constants in the day.

 In-House Rookie Speech Contest


The contest chair was Nk and the chief judge was Kr. Since both of them are officers of the Minato Mirai Toastmasters Club, they have been contributing to the club very much. In addition to this, they had a lot of preparations for the contest.

5 Rookies gave wonderful speeches that inspired even English-speech-experts in the club. The contest winner was given the right to participate in the Kanagawa pref contest. All members of the Minato Mirai Toastmasters Club will support the members who will advance to the area contest.

Feedback session

After the regular session, a feedback session was held for the 1st prized contestant. In this feedback session, a lot of sincere and constructive advice was given to the Rookie expecting the next Kanagawa pref contest.

The evaluation is not only being references and awareness for the speaker, but also for other members. With a set of speeches and feedback, you can get valuable feedbacks that are hard to find for us in daily life.


Minato Mirai Toastmasters Club has members with a wide range of ages, a wide range of backgrounds, and a wide range of speech experiences. Therefore, you can get advice from various views. If you are not yet enrolled, why don't you feel it?

Finally, this meeting was the 300th anniversary of the Minato Mirai Toastmasters Club, and the founder Yd gave a greeting. We aim for the 500th celebration from now on!

Postscript


The contest is proceeded with strict procedures and rules established internationally. Many roles are not found in regular meetings such as contest chair, chief judge, judges, and interviewers. Experiencing these roles will be a valuable opportunity for you. I'm looking forward to the next contest!
