The Meeting

今回のテーマは「AI and Us」でした。今や、多くの人が仕事や日常生活の中で使っているAIですが、それとどう向き合っているのかについて、それぞれの考え方や実際をきくことができ、非常に参考になりました。

The theme this time was "AI and Us." AI is now widely used in both professional and daily life, so it was highly insightful to hear about everyone's perspectives and actual experiences regarding how they engage with it.

今日のプリペアードスピーチの一つは、新入会された方のアイスブレーキングスピーチでした。「アイスブレーキングスピーチ」とは、初対面の人たちや緊張した場の空気を和らげるために行う、自己紹介スピーチで、４分から６分の時間内で行われます。まだ面識の少ない人でも、その人の生きかたや考え方の背景がよく理解できるスピーチでした。その人のスピーチを聞くことにより、その人の様々な経験や考え方を知ることができ、自分の知識にもなっていきます。トーストマスターズクラブには、様々な年齢層の人々がおり、経験や知識を共有することができます。

One of today's prepared speeches was an "Ice Breaker" delivered by a new member. An Ice Breaker is a self-introduction speech—lasting four to six minutes—designed to break the ice and ease tension when meeting people for the first time. Even though we didn't know the speaker well beforehand, the speech gave us a clear understanding of their way of life and the background behind their thinking. Listening to such speeches allows us to learn about others' diverse experiences and perspectives, thereby enriching our own knowledge. Toastmasters clubs bring together people of various ages, offering a space where we can share our experiences and insights.

毎月第2、第4土曜日の14:00〜16:00に例会を行っています。

The Meeting

今回も新たなメンバーが入会しました。彼を迎えて、クラブで入会式を行いました。英語で話したい、スピーチをしたい、コミュニケーションを習得したい、英語を使ってリーダーシップを発揮できるようになりたい、という人にはトーストマスターズクラブは最適な環境です。どしどし参加してください。初回はゲストとして出席していただき、３回参加した後、メンバーに応募できます。

We have welcomed another new member to the club and held an induction ceremony in this meeting. Toastmasters is the ideal environment for anyone who wants to speak English, give speeches, master communication skills, or develop leadership abilities through English. We encourage you to join us! You can attend your first meeting as a guest, and after participating three times, you are eligible to apply for membership.

さて、今回のテーマは 「Bucket List」 でした。Bucket List とは生きている間にやりたいことのリストです。それぞれのメンバーが自分の抱いているやりたいことを語りました。もともと、「The Bucket List」とはジャック・ニコルソンとモーガン・フリーマンが主役を務めて、2007年に米国で公開された映画のタイトルです。この言葉、実はこの映画の脚本家が「kick the bucket」から 作った造語です。だからそれ以前には存在しなかったんです。

So, the theme this time was the "bucket list"—a list of things one wants to do during one's lifetime. Each member shared the things they personally hope to accomplish. Incidentally, *The Bucket List* is also the title of a 2007 American film starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. In fact, the term itself was coined by the film's screenwriter, derived from the idiom "kick the bucket"; it did not exist prior to that.

今日の３人のプリペアードスピーチは、それぞれの仕事や生活の体験からのスピーチで、興味深いものでした。また、そのスピーチの中で、「彼女のお父さんから結婚の許可をもらった」という、嬉しい報告もありました。また次の展開を期待しています。

The three prepared speeches today were fascinating, drawing on the speakers' respective work and life experiences. One speech even included the happy news that the speaker had received permission from his girlfriend's father to marry her. I look forward to seeing how things unfold next.
