今回のミーティングのテーマは「Even magic takes practice.」でした。「魔法さえ練習が必要」という意味の英語のことわざですね。魔法に関することわざにふさわしく、今回は一足早いハロウィンの仮装でミーティングを行いました。１～２分のテーブルトピックスピーチは、「もし、魔法が使えたらどうしたい？」と言った質問に対して、５人のスピーチがありました。

The theme for this meeting was "Even magic takes practice." In keeping with this magical theme, we held the meeting in early Halloween costumes. During the 1–2 minute "Table Topics" session, five members gave short speeches in response to the question: "If you could use magic, what would you do?"

今日のプリペアードスピーチは３人でした。ベストスピーチは、「ラーメンは真の日本食なのか？」というテーマで、「ラーメンのオリジナルは中国だが、日本で洗練されて普及して日本人のソウルフードになっている。」というユーモアスピーチでした。

There were three prepared speeches today. The best speech was a humorous one titled "Is Ramen Truly Japanese Food?"—it argued that while ramen originated in China, it was refined and popularized in Japan to the point of becoming a "soul food" for the Japanese people.

テーマは「Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder」でした。「美しさは見る人の目の中にある」という意味の英語のことわざですね。何が美しいか、何に魅力を感じるかは、絶対的な基準があるのではなく、人それぞれの価値観や好みによって決まるという趣旨で、「芸術の秋」にふさわしいテーマでした。１～２分のテーブルトピックスピーチで、「美」に関連したトピックで５人のスピーチがありました。

The theme for this session was "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"—an English proverb suggesting that what one finds beautiful or appealing is not determined by any absolute standard, but rather by an individual’s own values ​​and preferences. It was a fitting theme for the "autumn of the arts." During the 1–2 minute Table Topics segment, five participants delivered short speeches on topics related to "beauty."

今日のプリペアードスピーチは３人でした。ベストスピーチは、ロサンジェルスの紀行を写真とともに紹介したスピーチでした。空の色やドジャーズのチームカラーとしての青がテーマになっていました。

There were three prepared speeches today. The best speech was one that presented a travelogue of Los Angeles, accompanied by photographs. The theme centered on the color blue—seen in the sky and as the team color of the Dodgers.

今回のテーマは「Come rain, come shine」でした。今年は台風もいくつかあり、その影響で異常に長期間雨が降っています。今日の１～２分のテーブルトピックスピーチでは、今までの人生の中で「一番興奮したこと」や「誰かに触発されたこと」などをトピックにして４人のスピーチがありました。

The theme for this session was "Come rain, come shine." We have experienced several typhoons this year, resulting in an unusually long period of rainfall. During the one-to-two-minute Table Topics session, four speakers shared stories based on topics such as the most exciting moment of their lives or times they were inspired by someone.

今日のプリペアードスピーチは３人でした。ベストスピーチは、「いかにしてみんなの意見を出し合うか」というテーマのスピーチでした。

There were three prepared speeches today. The best speech was on the topic of "how to get everyone to share their opinions."

本日のエバリュエータの一人はオンラインで参加しましたが、見事に本日のベストエバリュエータになりました。当クラブは対面だけでなく、オンラインでの出席も可能です。

One of today's evaluators participated online and was named the day's best evaluator—a fantastic achievement. Our club accommodates both in-person and online attendance.

Meeting #465 Meeting theme: Transitions

今回のテーマは「Transitions（変化、推移）」でした。今年の夏はまたしても異常な暑さでした。その夏から少しずつ季節が変わりつつあるのを実感している今日この頃です。１～２分のテーブルトピックスピーチでは、そのような「季節の変化」や、「人生の中での転機」などをトピックにして５人のスピーチがありました。

The theme for this session was "Transitions." We experienced unusually intense heat this year, but lately, I have been feeling the season gradually shifting away from that summer. During the one-to-two-minute "Table Topics" session, five speakers gave talks based on this theme, covering topics such as seasonal changes and transitions in life.

今日もプリペアードスピーチの一つは、新入会された方のアイスブレーキングスピーチでした。「アイスブレーキングスピーチ」とは、初対面の人たちや緊張した場の空気を和らげるために行う、自己紹介スピーチで、４分から６分の時間内で行われます。自分が人と接することが不得意なのを自覚して、その殻を自ら破って進んで生きてきた様子を話されました。そして、また、新たな挑戦としてこのクラブに入って、人前で話すことを克服したいというスピーチは、素晴らしいメッセージでした。彼は今日のベストスピーカーに選ばれました。トーストマスターズクラブはスピーチを通してコミュニケーションとリーダーシップをインターナショナルに学ぶことができる貴重な場所です。トーストマスターズクラブには、様々な年齢層の人々がおり、経験や知識を共有することができます。

One of today's prepared speeches was an "Ice Breaker" delivered by a new member. An Ice Breaker is an introductory speech—lasting four to six minutes—designed to break the ice and ease tension when meeting new people. The speaker shared his journey of overcoming his natural difficulty in interacting with others and his determination to step out of his comfort zone. His message—that he joined the club as a new challenge to conquer his fear of public speaking—was truly inspiring, and he was voted the day's Best Speaker. Toastmasters is a valuable environment for developing communication and leadership skills within an international framework. The club brings together people of diverse ages, allowing members to share their experiences and knowledge.

今回のテーマは「AI and Us」でした。今や、多くの人が仕事や日常生活の中で使っているAIですが、それとどう向き合っているのかについて、それぞれの考え方や実際をきくことができ、非常に参考になりました。

The theme this time was "AI and Us." AI is now widely used in both professional and daily life, so it was highly insightful to hear about everyone's perspectives and actual experiences regarding how they engage with it.

今日のプリペアードスピーチの一つは、新入会された方のアイスブレーキングスピーチでした。「アイスブレーキングスピーチ」とは、初対面の人たちや緊張した場の空気を和らげるために行う、自己紹介スピーチで、４分から６分の時間内で行われます。まだ面識の少ない人でも、その人の生きかたや考え方の背景がよく理解できるスピーチでした。その人のスピーチを聞くことにより、その人の様々な経験や考え方を知ることができ、自分の知識にもなっていきます。トーストマスターズクラブには、様々な年齢層の人々がおり、経験や知識を共有することができます。

One of today's prepared speeches was an "Ice Breaker" delivered by a new member. An Ice Breaker is a self-introduction speech—lasting four to six minutes—designed to break the ice and ease tension when meeting people for the first time. Even though we didn't know the speaker well beforehand, the speech gave us a clear understanding of their way of life and the background behind their thinking. Listening to such speeches allows us to learn about others' diverse experiences and perspectives, thereby enriching our own knowledge. Toastmasters clubs bring together people of various ages, offering a space where we can share our experiences and insights.

今回も新たなメンバーが入会しました。彼を迎えて、クラブで入会式を行いました。英語で話したい、スピーチをしたい、コミュニケーションを習得したい、英語を使ってリーダーシップを発揮できるようになりたい、という人にはトーストマスターズクラブは最適な環境です。どしどし参加してください。初回はゲストとして出席していただき、３回参加した後、メンバーに応募できます。

We have welcomed another new member to the club and held an induction ceremony in this meeting. Toastmasters is the ideal environment for anyone who wants to speak English, give speeches, master communication skills, or develop leadership abilities through English. We encourage you to join us! さて、今回のテーマは 「Bucket List」 でした。Bucket List とは生きている間にやりたいことのリストです。それぞれのメンバーが自分の抱いているやりたいことを語りました。もともと、「The Bucket List」とはジャック・ニコルソンとモーガン・フリーマンが主役を務めて、2007年に米国で公開された映画のタイトルです。この言葉、実はこの映画の脚本家が「kick the bucket」から 作った造語です。だからそれ以前には存在しなかったんです。

So, the theme this time was the "bucket list"—a list of things one wants to do during one's lifetime. Each member shared the things they personally hope to accomplish. Incidentally, *The Bucket List* is also the title of a 2007 American film starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. In fact, the term itself was coined by the film's screenwriter, derived from the idiom "kick the bucket"; it did not exist prior to that.

今日の３人のプリペアードスピーチは、それぞれの仕事や生活の体験からのスピーチで、興味深いものでした。また、そのスピーチの中で、「彼女のお父さんから結婚の許可をもらった」という、嬉しい報告もありました。また次の展開を期待しています。

The three prepared speeches today were fascinating, drawing on the speakers' respective work and life experiences. One speech even included the happy news that the speaker had received permission from his girlfriend's father to marry her. I look forward to seeing how things unfold next.

さて、今回のテーマは Let's enjoy summer. でした。異常に暑い日々が続いていますが、メンバーが今まで体験した暑さを語り合う場になりました。

The theme for this session was "Let's enjoy summer." We have been experiencing unusually hot days, and the session became an opportunity for members to share stories about the hottest weather they have ever experienced.

今日の最初のプリペアードスピーチは、英語以外の外国語を学ぶ意味について、自身の仕事の経験からのスピーチでした。英語だけでなく他の言語への興味も尽きないものです。二番目のスピーチは、架空の会社の朝の会議で「在宅勤務を止めよう」と提案した人事部長のスピーチとそれに対しての他のメンバーからの意見とその対応コミュニケーションでした。３番目のスピーチはクローゼットの中の片付けをするモチベーションについて、「何もしない前からモチベーションは生まれない。行動を起こした後にモチベーションが生まれる。」という話でした。どれも様々な視点からの見方を教えてくれたスピーチでした。

The first prepared speech of the day drew on the speaker's professional experience to discuss the significance of learning foreign languages ​​other than English—a topic that highlights our enduring interest in languages ​​beyond just English. The second speech took the form of a scenario at a fictional company: a Human Resources manager proposed ending remote work, followed by a presentation of the other team members' reactions and the ensuing communication. The third speech focused on finding the motivation to tidy up a closet, conveying the message that motivation does not arise before you start; rather, it emerges only after you take action. Each speech offered valuable insights from a variety of perspectives.

Meeting #461 Meeting theme: New Season

Minato-Mirai TMC 461st Meeting on July 11th, 2026

７月の1回目である本日のミーティングでは、スピーカーたちが「New Season」（新しいシーズン」というテーマを盛り込みました。なぜなら、毎年7月からトーストマスターズクラブでは新年度となるからです。 クラブの役員も新メンバーとなり運営していきます。今日は最初に新役員の就任式が行なわれました。クラブのプレジデント、セクレタリー、教育担当副プレジデント、PR担当副プレジデント、会計、サージェントアトアームズといった役職があります。これから1年間よろしくお願いします。
At today's meeting—the first of July—the speakers incorporated the theme of "New Season." This is because July marks the start of the new Toastmasters year. The club is now being led by a new team of officers. Today began with the induction ceremony for these new officers, who hold roles such as President, Secretary, Vice President of Education, Vice President of Public Relations, Treasurer, and Sergeant-at-Arms. We look forward to the year ahead.

今日のプリペアードスピーチの一つはプレシデントの就任挨拶も兼ねたものでした。「あなたは一人ではない」という言葉でクラブのみんなで互いに切磋琢磨していこうという姿勢が示されました。”Connect!繋がる”と”Spark!閃く”の言葉を言い合うことが提示されました。 また、二番目のスピーチは昨年度の会計報告を兼ねたものでした。プロジェクターを使って判りやすく説明されました。 三番目のスピーチはプレイステーションゲームがディスク版からダウンロード版に変わっていくことへの哀愁を述べたものでした。 今回も様々な気付きを与えてくれるセッションでした。
One of today’s prepared speeches also served as the President’s inaugural address. The speaker conveyed a commitment to mutual growth among club members, emphasizing the message, "You are not alone," and proposed that we encourage one another with the slogans "Connect!" and "Spark!" The second speech doubled as a presentation of the previous year's financial report, featuring a clear explanation aided by a projector. The third speech expressed a sense of nostalgia regarding the shift from physical discs to digital downloads for PlayStation games. Once again, the session offered a variety of valuable insights.
