みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブの忘年会では、ホワイトエレファント・プレゼント交換(WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT EXCHANGE)が毎年の恒例になっています。
ホワイトエレファント・プレゼント交換の準備
- 参加者全員、中身がわからないようにラッピングしたプレゼントを持ち寄ります。みなとみらいトーストマスターズクラブの場合、「未使用のいただきもの」または「1,000円程度のグッズ」を持ち寄ります。
- 幹事さんは、参加者全員が持ち寄ったプレゼントの山からプレゼントを選ぶ順番を書いた番号くじを用意しておきます。
プレゼント交換の進め方
- 参加者は持参したプレゼントを幹事さんが指定した場所に置きます。
- 参加者は番号くじを引いて、プレゼントの山からプレゼントを選ぶ順番を決めます。
- １番目の番号を引いた人は第一に、プレゼントを選びます。
- １番目に選んだ人は、その場で、プレゼントの中身をみんなに見せます。
- ２番目にプレゼントを選ぶ人は、他のプレゼントを選んでもいいのですが、１番目の人のプレゼントが気に入れば、スティール(steal)することもできます。
- プレゼントをスティールされた人は、新しいプレゼントを選んで、またプレゼントの中身を見せます。
- ３番目の人は、別のプレゼントを選んでもいいし、１番目、２番目の人のプレゼントのどちらかをスティールすることもできます。
- こうして、人気のあるプレゼントは、後からプレゼントを選ぶ人に回っていきますが、３回持ち主が変わったら、そのプレゼントは３回目に選んだ人のものに確定します。３回持ち主が変わったプレゼントは、もうスティールできません。
- こうしてプレゼントがスティールされるたび、パーティーが盛り上がっていきます。
Preparation
- Each participant supplies one wrapped gift. The gift should be either something unused you ever received from someone or something worth about JPY 1,000 for Minato-Mirai Toastmasters Club.
- Party Coordinator prepares lots for turns.
Rule
- The first person (#1) chooses a gift, opens and shows it to all participants.
- The second person (#2) has the choice of either "stealing" any unwrapped gift or choosing a wrapped one. If #2 steals #1's gift, then #1 chooses another wrapped gift.
- The third person (#3) has the choice of either "stealing" any unwrapped gift (#1's or #2's) or choosing a wrapped one.
- Likewise, when a gift is stolen from you, you can either steal a gift (within limits, described below) or open a wrapped one.
- The turn proceeds until all wrapped gifts are chosen.
- You cannot steal the same gift back.
- Nobody can steal the gift which has been stolen three times. The fourth "owner" of the gift can keep it.
- "Owners" of the gifts which have been stolen up to three times must keep them visible.
- The gift exchange ends when the last wrapped gift is opened.
