Word of the Day【WOD】: foresight
<Opening/初めに>
The theme of this meeting was “Presents – Now & Future.”
It invited us to reflect on the importance of the present moment while also looking forward with hope and purpose.
This meeting also marked the final session led by the club officers serving from July 2024 to June 2025.
It was a heartwarming gathering filled with gratitude for the past year and excitement for what lies ahead.
今回のミーティングテーマは「Presents – Now & Future」。
「今」というかけがえのない時間に目を向け、そして「未来」への希望やつながりを考える、そんな素敵なテーマのもとで行われた例会でした。
さらにこの日は、2024年7月から2025年6月までクラブを支えてくれたオフィサー陣にとって、任期最後のミーティングでもありました。
１年間の感謝と、新たな一歩への期待が交差する、心あたたまる時間となりました。

To kick off the meeting, we enjoyed our traditional Joke/Tips session—an important moment that sets a warm and cheerful tone for the evening.
This time, TM JT, who comes from overseas, shared a humorous story about his experience learning Japanese. In Japanese, it’s common to add honorific prefixes like “o” or “go” to words (like o-mizu for water or go-han for rice) to show politeness. But for learners, knowing when and how to use them isn’t always easy. TM JT shared a lighthearted mishap he experienced because of this, and his story had the entire room laughing. It was a delightful reminder of how cultural differences can bring joy, laughter, and connection.
ミーティングの冒頭を飾ってくれたのは、Joke/Tips のコーナー。会の雰囲気を一気に和ませてくれる、大切なひとときです。
今回は海外出身の TM JT さんが登場し、日本語にまつわるユーモラスなエピソードを披露してくれました。日本語では「お水」や「ご飯」のように、丁寧な表現として「お」や「ご」をつける習慣がありますが、日本語学習者にとってはこれがなかなかの難関。TM JT さんは、その使い方でちょっとした“珍事件”を経験したそうです。文化の違いが生むユーモアに、会場は笑いに包まれ、まさに“場があたたまる”素敵な時間となりました。

TM CH: "Self Introduction”
In her Ice Breaker speech, TM CH introduced her hometown, hobbies, and her current job. With a calm tone and clear structure, she delivered the speech with surprising confidence for a first-time speaker. It was heartwarming to learn new sides of her, helping everyone feel more connected. A wonderful start to her Toastmasters journey.
TM CHさんのアイスブレークスピーチでは、出身地や趣味、そして現在の仕事について紹介してくれました。落ち着いた話しぶりと丁寧な構成で、初スピーチとは思えないほど自然に話されていました。これまで知らなかった彼女の一面を知ることができ、会員同士の距離がぐっと近づいた、温かいスピーチでした。
TM MD: “English, speech, and drinking”
TM MD’s speech, titled “English, speech, and drinking,” was a creative and heartfelt look into her role as this term’s VPM and VPPR. Through humorous and memorable characters, she illustrated what makes a club attractive. Her message was clear and engaging, showing her strong dedication and love for the Toastmasters community.
「English, speech, and drinking」と題したTM MDさんのスピーチでは、今期VPMおよびVPPRとしての活動を通じて、クラブの魅力をどう伝えるかについて熱く語ってくれました。個性豊かなキャラクターを交えた構成がユニークで、わかりやすく印象に残る内容でした。クラブへの深い愛情が伝わる心温まるスピーチでした。
TM CT: “We didn't panic. We just laughed.”
In her speech titled “We didn't panic. We just laughed.”, TM CT shared how humor and jokes can transform even stressful situations. Through personal stories, she showed how laughter can lighten the mood and lift everyone’s spirits. Her positive mindset and warm energy were truly inspiring to all who listened.
TM CTさんのスピーチ「We didn't panic. We just laughed.」は、日常のストレスに対してユーモアやジョークが持つ力を教えてくれました。どんな状況でも笑いを交えることで空気が和み、自分や周囲の気持ちが前向きになる様子を、実体験を交えて語ってくれました。彼女の前向きな姿勢に、多くのメンバーが元気づけられました。

At the close of the meeting, the outgoing officers received heartfelt thanks and warm applause. Despite their busy lives, they dedicated time and energy to support and grow our club. We truly appreciate their hard work and commitment. As we look ahead, we wish the next team continued success and a rewarding journey together.
例会の最後には、今期のオフィサー陣に対して、労いの言葉と温かい拍手が贈られました。それぞれが忙しい中でクラブ運営に尽力し、学びと成長の場を支えてくれたことに、心から感謝の気持ちを伝えたいと思います。来期もまた、新たなチームでこの素晴らしい活動が続いていくことを願ってやみません。

Minato-Mirai Toastmasters Club has a rich variety of members with different nationalities, age groups, professions, hobbies and so on.
We enjoy learning public speech, presentation and leadership together.
We hold our meetings 14:00-16:00 on 2nd/4th Saturdays every month.
